Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Battery Recycling

Man operating the UPS battery take back scheme

Sims Metal Management offers a recycling service for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) batteries throughout the United Kingdom. We also operate a UPS battery take-back scheme on behalf of American Power Conversion (APC).

UPS Batteries are counted as hazardous waste under the Hazardous Waste Regulations. We are licensed to recover and recycle UPS batteries at six of our UK recycling centres.

Uninterruptible Power Supply Batteries are typically used to provide protection to computer equipment from power surges and temporary losses of power.

UPS Battery

UPS Batteries are defined as hazardous waste and fall under the requirements of the Hazardous Waste Regulations. These require the battery movement to be accompanied by a Hazardous Waste Consignment note.

You can obtain one from your nearest Sims Metal Management UPS battery recycling centre. Please ensure that you do not return or post your battery without a consignment note.

Care should be taken when packing the batteries for return by post. Used batteries can be dangerous and it is essential that they are packed in a way that prevents them shorting on each other, moving significantly within the package or being damaged.

The maximum package weight is 25 kg. If the quantity of batteries to be returned is greater than this, please split the shipment into two or more packages to keep the weight below this value.

Sims Metal Management is the authorised UK recycler of American Power Conversion (APC) Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) batteries.

If your business is not near one of the Sims Metal Management recycling centres, under the terms of the agreement with APC, you will need to pay for shipment of the battery/batteries to the address provided by your nearest Sims contact (above).

Email us or call your nearest UPS battery recycling centre today for further information about UPS battery recycling.
