New non ferrous facility for local businesses opens in Newport, Wales
Sims Metal Management is expanding its metals recycling services to local businesses in Newport with the opening of a new non ferrous metals collection facility at Maesglas Industrial Estate. The company’s existing metals recycling facility in Newport docks is less than a mile away but the new site will cater for local traders and businesses who want to drop off scrap non ferrous metal quickly and easily without having to enter the main docks area.
Regional Manager, Scott Lambourne explains: “Our main recycling area within the docks is the largest metals recycling facility in the world so it is very busy with lorries delivering large loads throughout the day. Local plumbers and tradesmen delivering to our main site sometimes find themselves held up in queues when they get there. So we have opened this new facility to provide easier access. It will mean they can simply turn up, drop off their non ferrous scrap metal and be on their way again without having to drive through the docks or wait in a queue.”
The company’s existing activities in Newport include the world’s largest metals shredder, the world’s largest fridge recycling plant and the world’s largest and most technologically advanced electronics recycling facility. Scott added: “This latest venture underlines our continued commitment to Newport by making sure we cater for local businesses as well as our larger clients. We look forward to welcoming our existing and new customers to the new site when we officially open on Thursday 1 July. To celebrate, we will be providing free bacon butties to visiting tradesmen throughout the day.” The new facility is just off the A4042 Docks Way at the bottom of Greenwich Road, in Maesglas Industrial Estate.
