UK sites adopt 100% ‘green’ printed stationery

All printed stationery used at Sims Metal Management’s administrative headquarters and metals recycling sites around the UK is now derived from sustainable sources. The switch to 100% ‘green’ printed stationery is part of the company’s on-going drive to maximise its sustainability and was implemented following a review of ‘green’ printed stationery offered by environmentally accredited stationery supplier, J G Fenn Ltd.

BBC visit Camborne as Fire Service heads for world cup

BBC news visited Sims Metal Management’s authorised treatment facility for the depollution of end of life vehicles in Camborne, UK. The visit was organised following the announcement that Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service is to represent the UK in the 2010 Vehicle Extrication World Cup competition, this September in Ireland.

New non ferrous facility for local businesses opens in Newport

Sims Metal Management is expanding its metals recycling services to local businesses in Newport with the opening of a new non ferrous metals collection facility at Maesglas Industrial Estate. The company’s existing metals recycling facility in Newport docks is less than a mile away but the new site will cater for local traders and businesses who want to drop off scrap non ferrous metal quickly and easily without having to enter the main docks area.

Sims Metal Management has been listed as one of the Global Top 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World for the second year running. The list, compiled by sustainable business publication Corporate Knights, was announced at the 2010 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Sims Metal Management has been named Best Recycler of the Decade by the UK’s leading recycling magazine, Materials Recycling Week (MRW). The announcement was made in MRW’s ‘review of the noughties’ which identified the UK’s top performing companies in the materials recycling and waste management sector between 2000 and 2009.

Exeter scrap yard rail link reopens after eight years

A train carrying recycled steel has departed from Sims Metal Management’s Exeter recycling facility for the first time in eight years. The EWS locomotive arrived at the site in Marsh Barton Trading Estate at 7.30 am on Thursday morning to be loaded up with recycled steel destined for the company’s dockside facility in Newport, Gwent.

Hartlepool metals recycling facility transformed within a year

Visitors to the former C Herring and Son metals recycling centre in Longhill Industrial Estate, Hartlepool, will have noticed a vast difference in the site since it was taken over by the world’s largest metals and electronics recycling company, Sims Metal Management, just over a year ago. Sims Metal Management acquired the facility – the company’s first in the North East - in February 2009 and wasted no time in transforming the site’s infrastructure in order to increase its range of recycling services available to businesses in Teeside.
