Sims Metal Management has scrap metal recycling centres throughout the United States of America and Australia. Metals recycling also takes place in a growing number of company depots in Canada, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Recycled ferrous metals and non ferrous metals are exported from Sims Metal Management sites to international markets.
Sims Metal Management and its joint ventures have more than 100 scrap metal recycling locations in North America – including operations in 19 US states. In Canada, the group has several metals recycling centers in British Columbia.

- Sims Metal Management Municipal Recycling - the company has become a cornerstone of New York City's recycling system, processing and marketing the approximately 240,000 tons of plastic, glass and metal that New Yorkers put into recycling bins each year.
- Sims Recycling Solutions - the electronics recycling division based in several US states and Ontario, Canada
- Sims Metal Management Global Trade Corporation - markets materials from various company owned scrap processing locations in North America, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. Additionally, Sims Metal Management buys materials from independently owned suppliers and producers in the United Kingdom, Europe, North America, South America and the Caribbean.

Back in 1917, this is where it all started. Albert Sims started processing scrap metal with a few friends. Little did he know that is efforts would result today in the world's largest scrap metal recycling business with an annual turnover of over AU$7bn.
In Australia alone, there are over 30 Sims Metal Management scrap metal recycling centres, with additional centres in New Zealand (Sims Pacific Metals) and Papua New Guinea (PNG Recycling). Other divisions in Australia take the number of sites to around 50 in the region.
