About Us

Scrap aluminium baled for recycling

Sims Metal Management is the world’s largest metal recycler, operating in the UK. We process over 2 million tonnes of ferrous and non ferrous scrap metal in the UK every year, including over 400,000 cars and other end of life vehicles.

As a global blue chip public limited company, Sims Metal Management has a turnover exceeding £5.8 billion and operates from over 260 sites across five continents. Sims Metal Management is driven by the highest standards of corporate governance and compliance, leading the way in sustaining valuable resources. Globally, the business has over 90 years experience of metal recycling.

In the UK, Sims Metal Management’s satellite network of collection and transfer facilities channel scrap metal flows into several world class multi-process hub facilities, strategically located for domestic steel and foundry customers or on dockside facilities, allowing access to near Continental markets as well as deep sea destinations. View facilities and services at our 36 UK metal recycling locations.

We recover non hazardous consumer goods, end of life and abandoned cars and vehicles, redundant machinery, waste metals from factory processing and other ferrous and non ferrous scrap metal.  Any pollutants such as engine oil and cadmium are safely removed and some manual processing is carried out.  Then a variety of mechanical processing techniques are employed to separate different metals, plastics and glass for recycling. Visit our products and services pages for details.

Our electronics recycling division, Sims Recycling Solutions has several UK recycling operations, providing a complementary service for Waste Electrical and Eectronic Equipment (WEEE) recycling. Hazardous substances from e-waste such as fridges and televisions are recovered prior to materials recycling. Sims Recycling Solutions also offers a computer asset recovery service, unlocking value in redundant IT and telecommunications equipment for businesses and organisations.
